“A Blessed Life, In Retrospect”
Patricia Ann “Tricia” Holmes was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 21, 1950 to Preston Sr. and Hazel Moore Holmes, the Holmes-Brown-Moore family Matriarch. Her dad, Preston “Choc” Holmes Sr.; her younger brother, Patrick and her great-niece, Heaven preceded her in death.
Having attended Dunbar South Elementary and Northeast Jr. High Schools, Tricia graduate from Sumner High School, Class of 1968. She matriculated at Pittsburg State College, where she pledged the Delta Sigma Thea Sorority, Inc. and then attended Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, New York, earning a Bachelor’s Degree, with honors, in 1973.
Tricia worked at Reader’s Digest New York and for a computer firm California. For ten years, she did payroll and audits in the movie industry, beside her older brother, Preston. She later worked at World Vision, and international charity, New York, until failing health forced her to retire on disability.
God and family were Tricia’s passions. Baptized at Eighth Street Baptist Church at an early age, Patricia remained an active and faithful servant of God, often attending Eighth Street’s Bible courses and singing in its choir when she visited family in Kansas City, Kansas. Her New York church home was Central Baptist Church New York, where she directed the choir, taught the New Members’ Class, was a Deacon and a Trustee.
She waged a valiant five-year battle against leukemia, fiercely fighting “the good fight” of faith, and only leaving earth’s battlefield----when she saw Jesus. Amen.
Patricia is survived by her mother, Hazel Holmes; siblings, Preston L. Holmes Jr., New York; Stephanie Holmes Jones, Kansas City, Kansas; sister-friend, Mary Collins Hayes; nieces, Erica Holmes, Kansas City, Kansas; Naimah Holmes, New York and Patrice Mays, Kansas City, Missouri: nephews, Brandon Holmes (Clarice); Touré Summey (Edna), New Jersey; Trenton Hodge, Louisiana; and a host of other relatives.
