Nedra Velorise Harris
Nedra Velorise Harris was born April 21, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ozzie William Wright and Ruth Annabelle Basey. Nedra grew up in Kansas City, Kansas spent time in Ardmore, Oklahoma and in her teen years she returned to Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Sumner High School and later received her GED. She attended AVTS in Kansas City, Kansas where she received a certificate in Nursing. She worked at various Nursing Homes and Hospitals in the area. She retired from Providence-St. Margaret Hospital as a Telemetry Nurse where she worked for several years.
Nedra accepted Christ at an early age, she attended Eighth Street Baptist Church. She was a Charter Member of Peace and Fellowship Community Church where she attended regularly until her health failed.
Nedra Velorise Harris passed away peacefully February 27, 2019 at her residence in Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by the “LOVE” of her life, Charles Barnes, Sr., her mother, Ruth Annabelle Basey; father, Ozzie William Wright; sisters, Jeanetta Taylor and Shirley James; grandmother, Pinkie Brown; step-father, James Basey; and aunt, Barbara Smith.
Nedra Leaves to cherish her memories sons, Charles Barnes, Jr., Topeka, Kansas and Jeffery Barnes, Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Nedra Wright “Barnes” Jackson (Trena), Kansas City, Kansas; a nephew she raised, Michael Taylor; grandchildren, Douglas Thurmond; Damian Ford (Alysha); Tonnisha Wright-Scott (Mondo); Corey Barnes; Velorise Barnes; Mattie Barnes (JJ); 18 additional grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bettie Powell; Helen Davis (JD); Michele Shackelford; Marcia Piggie; Iva Wright; Wanda Williams (Burnett); Patricia Wright; brothers, Jerry Wright; Wendell Wright (Tonya); aunt, Willetta Easley; and Betty Looney; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
