Life’s Reflection

Matthew Johnson was born August 1, 1990 to the parents of Audrey Renee Roark (Woolridge) and Ronald Johnson. Matthew was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, where he graduated from F.L Schlagle High school in 2008.

At Schlagle, he was inducted into the National Honor Society, graduating in the top ten of his class. Matthew received several college scholarships, including the Martin L. King, Jr. Legacy Scholarship. In athletics, he participated in cross country and track where he received medals and varsity letters. Matthew was accepted to the University of Kansas where he studied for two years.  Later, he pursued a career in the medical field and received certification as a Certified Nursing Aide then as a Certified Medication Aide. Matthew continued his education and received his Associates Degree from Kansas City, Kansas Community College in Respiratory Therapy. Once he received his degree, he successfully passed the state boards and began his career at North Kansas City Hospital as a Critical Care Respiratory Therapist.

At the age of 11, Matthew accepted Christ into his heart and was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church by Rev. Jarvis L. Collier. As a member of Pleasant Green, Matthew served as an usher on the Junior Usher Board.

Matthew will be remembered as a great friend, someone who was dependable, kind, and full of energy. If at anytime he noticed one of his family or friends down, he would quickly change their mood with the positive energy he radiated.

Matthew was preceded in death by John and Hazel Johnson, paternal grandparents and his maternal great grandparents George, Sr. and Savannah Criss.
