Life’s Reflection

Marilyn White was born August 30, 1932 to Herman and Edith Campbell in Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Lucille Grigsby, Maybelle Bailey, Vivian Wilson, Marcus Campbell, Etta Jean Campbell, Sylvester Campbell, Beauita Slaughter, Ernestine Campbell, Cosetta Burrell, Melvin Campbell, Maurice Campbell, and Rita Mae Campbell.

She was a proud graduate of Sumner High School, Class of 1950. She started working at Kansas University Hospital as an Elevator Operator, and then as a Nurses Aid. She wanted more. She worked hard, went to the library, checked out books on Business and taught herself how to type. She applied and was given a position as a receptionist for the Ears, Nose and Throat Department at the hospital, where she became invaluable to the staff and patients. She retired from the KUMC after 42 years of service. She was a world traveler like her sister, Etta Jean Douglass, crossing over all the Continents twice.

Marilyn was a 50+ year member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.

She was devoted to the community and would voice her opinion very strongly when she was injustice especially in the North-end of Kansas City, KS. She served as president of the Turtle Hill Community Group for several years. She was also the editor of the Wonderland Journal Paper, a community-based “tell-it-all” paper.

Marilyn White was called home, Sunday Morning, August 13, 2017, doing it her way.

She leaves to celebrate her life, her only child, Linda Green, Son in-law, Michael Green; Granddaughter, Kerry Lynn, and her husband, Jerranie Lynn; Grandson, Michael Green, II, and his wife, Amanda Green; 12 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
