In Loving Memory of Mae H. (Union) Smith

 Mae H. Union Smith was born on November 10, 1927 in Fayette Mississippi the oldest out of 14 children to the late Sylvester & Rosetta Union. She was a very loving and soft-spoken person, the love from within, that over flow from her home.

Mae Hanna attend school in Fayette Mississippi. She was employed with KU Medical Center for over 30 years where she retired. That didn’t stop her, she continued to work in private homes and take care of families.

On April 12, 1942, she was united in holy matrimony to Robert Lee Smith, they were married until his passing in December 24, 1995.

Mae was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She served faithfully under the late E. A. Johnson and Reverend J. R. Williamson, she was head of the Usher board and on the Mother board and Senior choir as well.  Mae was a caring and loving woman.

Mae, didn’t have any children that she gave birth to, but with her husband they affectionately raise her nieces, Bernice Carroll; Lillie McCloud (aka Noop); and Maggie Robinson; nephew, Kenny Leveringston as their children.

Mae, will be remembered as a wonderful woman with indomitable spirit who always had a home where, food was always on the stove and you could come in and get a plate. Her, homemade ice cream and her, homemade peach cobbler, along with the laughter of her family and friends, and her, telling you to come on in and have a seat. But most of all how she, welcomed you on the front porch to have coffee and long conversations.

Mae, was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Lee Smith, parents, Sylvester & Rosetta Union; brothers, Sylvester Union, Jr.; Earl Union; Howard Union; sisters, Annie Union; Bertha Union; Yvonne Moore; and Lola Lee Union.

She leaves her loving family sisters, Laura Mae Leveringston; Willie Mae Sanders (J.D.); Odessa Union-Murphy (Horace); brothers, James Union (Gussie); Robert Lee Union (Dean); Alonzo Union; brother in law, Samuel Moore; grandchildren, Antionette Watts; Kendra Leveringston; Shaqwana Leveringston; Courtney Leveringston; She will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins extend family members, too numerous of family to name but far too special to be forgotten.
