Miss Louise Eleanor Johnson Chatman Jenkins departed this life Thursday, August 1, 2019.
She was born June 27, 1923 to George and Beatrice (Rogers) Johnson. She was the oldest of twelve children.
Louise attended the Kansas City, Kansas School District, graduating from Sumner High School “Class of 1941”.
Louise accepted Christ at an early age.
She met and married Dona Chatman in 1948 and to this union three children were born (2) in Dayton, Ohio and (1) in Kansas City, Kansas.
After she received her diploma from Kansas City Missouri General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, she became a registered nurse in Ohio in 1949. She had a true desire for knowledge and education.
She later married Willie Jenkins in 1961 in Kansas City, Kansas, one child was born to this union.
She was employed at General Hospital known today as Truman Medical Center. She later was employed at KU Medical Center for 36 years retiring in 1984.
Louise enjoyed watching her grandchildren, as well as traveling to several locations in the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. She cherished her dolls and pig collection.
Louise was a longtime member of the Kansas City Community Church previously known as Freeman Avenue Church of God, where she was one of the mothers of the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Beatrice Johnson; a husband; Willie Jenkins; a son, Frederick Chatman; her brothers, Willard Rogers, George Johnson, Jr., Arthur Johnson and Kenneth Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories a son, Phillip Chatman (Bonnie) of Cedar Hill, TX; two daughters, Rev. Yvonne Chatman-Hendree (Guy) of Memphis, TN; Willa Lincoln (Leon) of KCKS; sisters, Karenza Murphy (Rena), Emma Jean (Sally) Covington, Frances Nash (Butch) of Hereford, Arizona and her brothers; Leonard Johnson (Nippy), Paul Johnson (Bernice), Rev. Stewart Johnson (Dolly), Donald Johnson (Kay) and grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, other relatives and friends.
