Life’s Reflections

Lonnell L. Pennington, Jr., (Pink, Bird, Buddy, Chuckles, Teddy, Mr. P) was born January 1, 1947 to Lonnell L. Pennington, Sr., and Consuello Moore.  Lonnell attended school in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Sumner High School in 1964.

Lonnell became a Christian at an early age.  Lonnell was a faithful member at First Baptist Church at 5th and Nebraska.  Lonnell was in the choir and President of the Usher Board for over 10 years.

Lonnell worked at the Kansas City Kansas Public Library on Minnesota, Owens & Corning Fiberglass, Heze’s Barbeque in his young years.  Lonnell went to work for Kansas City Power and Light in 1969 as a plant helper.  Lonnell continued to work at KCP&L in central insulation and became known as “Pink”.  Lonnell and his co-workers had many stories and they truly loved working together.  Lonnell retired from Kansas City Power & Light in 2002.

Lonnell became a licensed Realtor and worked with Remax and Platinum Realty.  Lonnell was also a property manager.

Lonnell was handpicked by Phyllis’ mother and he was introduced to his "Buddy" in November 1971.  They communicated long distance for a couple of years and then he married Phyllis in June 1973.  Lonnell had strong family values and two children, Carlos and Felicia.  Lonnell loved to travel and go to Fiesta in San Antonio, Texas.  Lonnell also loved to cruise with their west coast family and friends.

Lonnell loved sports especially his 49er’s.  Lonnell had many young people in his life respect and love him and give undivided attention on a regular basis.  He had huge support throughout his illness from family and friends.

Lonnell leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 44 years, Phyllis; son, Carlos Merriman; daughter, Felicia Pennington; grandson, Marcus Merriman, all of Kansas City, Kansas; mother, Consuello Moore of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Sharon K. Cherry (Julius) of Atlanta, Georgia; Zana Shain (Wendell) Rialto, California; brothers, Elmer Bass; Kevin Pennington; both of Kansas City, Kansas.  Lonnell also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends and his international adopted families.
