Levi Charles Payne was born to the union of James and Virginia Lewis Payne on October 4, 1928 in Winchester, Arkansas. His parents preceded him in death, along with one sister, Willie Mae Lewis; two brothers, George Payne; and William Cornely.
Levi attended Elementary School in Winchester, Arkansas, in 1941 he moved to Kansas City, Kansas. In 1950, he joined the United States Army and served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1956 with rank of Sergeant.
Levi married Ada R. Blackwell, he enjoyed joining the Hilltop Saddle Club, and he rode in the American Royal Parade for several years.
For 37 years Levi worked at CertainTeed Fiberglass Corporation.
He will be missed by his two sons, Herbert Wright (Ella); and Ray A. Payne (Adriene E.); three grandsons, Herbert Wright, Jr; Michael Wright (Shirley); and Nichious X. (Nick) Payne; three granddaughters, LaurenZoe C. (Zoey) Payne; Re’gine E. Payne; and Lordis A. Payne; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Fletcher Cornely (Sharon) of St. Paul Minnesota; five cousins, Mary T. Jackson; Helen Brown; Theodore Riley; Mary King; and Eartha Scott; a host of other relatives and friends.
