Life’s Reflections

Leon Roberts, born on February 23, 1952, in Kansas City, Kansas, departed this life at age 66 on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Medicalodges Post-Acute Care Center.  He was the youngest of three children born to Aaron Roberts, Jr., and Mary Doss Roberts.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Claud Lee Roberts, and his nephew, Cecil Charles Smith, Jr.

Leon professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of the Antioch Baptist Church.  He was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas, School District and graduated from Sumner High School in 1970.  He also attended Kansas City, Kansas Community College where he majored in Business Administration.  He served in the United States Air Force as a Supply Specialist from 1971 to 1975 and was honorably discharged.  He held a variety of jobs over the course of his post-military working life but was best known for his work as an Elevator Monitor at Hughes Development Crossline Towers, Inc., where he received a Perfect Attendance award, and his work as a Security Guard at various businesses throughout Wyandotte County.

On April 13, 2007, at the age of 55, Leon suffered a debilitating stroke.  He would spend the next 11 years as a resident of Medicalodges Post-Acute Care Center where despite his many health issues and physical limitations he managed to make friends amongst the staff and other residents and enjoy life until that Sunday morning when God called him home.  He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Dorothy Smith (Cecil), Kansas City, Kansas, and Darlene Miller, Carrollton, Texas; three nieces, Venita Smith, Kansas City, Kansas, Anita Miller, Carrollton, Texas, and Darnese Miller, Carrollton, Texas; one great-nephew, Joshua Miller, Carrollton, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
