Life’s Reflections

Angels rejoiced when LaTanya Gene’ Toombs (Tonnie) entered the world as a child, born to Harold Lewis Toombs, Sr. and Carole Frances Price Toombs on July 3, 1954 for this was a great day in the Kingdom.

She accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at age 10.  LaTanya was baptized at Strangers Rest Baptist Church by Pastor C.A. Pugh.  She sang in the Youth Choir and the Young People’s Choir and attended Sunday services and Sunday School regularly when she was able.

She was educated through the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.  LaTanya attended Hawthorne Elementary, Northeast Junior High and in 1972, graduated from Wyandotte Senior High School.  In Fall 1973, she attended Kansas State University where she studied Early Childhood Education and Development.   She later transferred to Donnelly College where she was listed in Who’s Who of College Students.   LaTanya received an Associate’s Degree in Arts and Sciences in May 1977.   LaTanya received a certificate of Respiratory Technician Education from Bethany Medical Center in 1981.  On March 15, 1986 she was honored with the title of Certified Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

LaTanya was employed at Bethany Medical Center from 1981-1984.   She became employed at Truman Medical Center in 1984 where she retired after 34 years in 2016.  While at Truman, LaTanya worked in the Neonatal Care Department at Children’s Mercy Hospital.  LaTanya always had a passion for babies and children, American History and was known as our family’s Sports Buff.  Tonnie loved family gatherings and long road trips and the pool.  She loved to read her Bible and her Sunday School lesson.  Tonnie was a gift-giver and got joy from making people smile.

LaTanya was preceded in death by her Father, Harold Lewis Toombs, Sr.; and her brother, Harold Lewis Toombs, Jr

To cherish memories of her love and life she is survived by her Mother, Carole Newton (Harl); Sisters, Glenda Arrington, Debra Arrington, and Toianne Smith (Henry); her son, Marvin Edward Caldwell, Jr.; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Marvin Edward, III and DeMarcus; her best friend, Marvin E. Caldwell, Sr.; brother-in-law, Steven Henry, Sr.; paternal sisters, Courtney and Corie Toombs; paternal aunt, Norma Conner and a host of nieces, nephews, lifetime friends and other relatives.

May God receive LaTanya Gene’ Toombs spirit, renew her body and allow her rest in Heavenly Peace.
