John Thomas Sample, II

Through God’s grace and mercy, over the past seven years Bro. John survived a struggling illness.  His strong will to live allowed his family to witness God’s grace and mercy. 

His life and legacy we are celebrating had it’s beginning in Washington, DC.

THE ENTRY

Bro. John Thomas Sample, II, was the oldest of three children born the late Dr. John L. Sample and the late Oleta Peterson Sample, September 25, 1944.  His brother, Michael; and sister-in-law, Betty preceded him in death.

THE PREPARATION PERIOD

Knowing the need for Christ in his life, he confessed faith in Christ at Brown Chapel U.M.C in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.  Later her united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas, April 10, 2016.

He attended Poplar Bluff High School and graduated in 1962.  He also attended Lincoln University, in Jefferson City, Missouri.   

THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE

With a spiritual loving connection, he married the love of his life, Judge Whitaker Sample on May 28, 1971.  What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.  They were married 46 years and 11 months.  To this union two handsome sons were born, John Christopher and Michael Shawn Sample.

THE COMMITMENT TO SERVE

John enlisted in the United States Army in 1963.  His permanent duty station was Schofield Barrack Army Base in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He served at the rank of Specialist 5, honorably discharged in 1967.

John employment career began at Sears Youth Center as a Youth Counselor for 8 years, United State Postal Service as a Maintenance Technician for 30 years, after retirement USD 500 School District as a Bus Monitor for 2 years.

THE PLEASURE OF LIFE

John found joy in his Family, traveling, watching sports, game shows and western movies.

THE DEPARTURE

Death from a Christian perspective is not the end of life, but the beginning of glory divine.  John entered glory Wednesday, April 18, 2018 peacefully in his sleep.

HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY

Loving memories will live in the hearts of those he held close to his heart, his loving wife, Judge W. Sample of Kansas City, Kansas; his sons, John C. Sample (Bridgette) of Kansas City, Kansas; Michael S. Sample (Andrea) of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Shamar Hearld; Christopher Sample; Chandler Sample; Kamryn Sample; Kennedy Sample; and Michael Sample; great-grandchildren, Mia Hearld; sister, Karen Sample; God-daughters, Candace Springfield; and Andrea Manlove; the Sample and Whitaker families and a host of friends.
