Life Reflections
Joanna L. Baynham, 78, passed away on December 11, 2018 at Azria Health in Olathe, Kansas. She was born on March 15, 1940 in Booneville, Missouri to Roger Louis Jackson and Eleanor L. Smith, the eldest of four children.
Joanna spent her earlier years in Booneville, Missouri then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she attended Lincoln High School. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she met and married Dr. Robert L Baynham on July 22, 1956. To this union they had five daughters and one son, who proceeded her in death. She later completed and obtained her GED.
Joanna loved God and was always willing to show God's love by helping and encouraging others. She served in various capacities within many different churches. When her husband accepted his first pastoral duties at Second Baptist Church in Iola, Kansas she served as First Lady, and in any capacities, she was needed, as well as serving First Lady of Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Humboldt, Kansas. She was loved by those that she came in contact with. Then Dr. Baynham accepted pastoral duties at the Independent Baptist Church in Leavenworth, Kansas where she served as First Lady, member of the choir, Flower & Garden Club, Mission Department and many other organizations. She was also a member of American Business Women's Association (ABWA) Leavenworth Chapter. She was Senior Camp Director and worker at Camp Ascension in Toronto, Kansas. She then moved to Kansas City, Kansas and became a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church where she served as First Lady, member of several Choirs, Mission Department, Escalators, Deaconess, and in other capacity as needed. One thing that she always enjoyed doing was serving in the kitchen. She was the former First Lady of the Missionary Baptist Convention of the State of Kansas and a member of the Minister’s Wives Auxiliary.
Joanna was employed with Cushing Memorial Hospital where she was a CNA and later was employed and retired from the Veteran Administration Hospital Leavenworth, Kansas in the Dietary Dept.
Joanna was proceeded in death by her parents, Roger Jackson (father); Eleanor Campbell (mother); Governor Campbell (step-father); Wayne Mucker (son-in-law); Jasper Barnes; James Barnes (brother-in-law); and her beloved son, Robert L. Baynham Jr…
Joanna is survived by her loving husband Dr. Robert L Baynham of Kansas City, Kansas; her daughters, Pamela Mucker (Wayne) and Nina Standifer (Phillip) of Jacksonville, Florida; Denise Baynham and Rachel Keith of Kansas City, Kansas; Rebecca Rainey of Grandview, Missouri; her brother, John Jackson (Mae) of Miami, Florida; sisters, Mary Jackson; Josephine Trammer (Ralph) both of Kansas City, Missouri; three sister-in-law, Roberta Baynham of Kansas City, Missouri; Jeana Bass (Wallace) of Lowry City, Missouri; Brenda Barnes of Overland Park, Kansas; two aunts, Lottie Giboney of Champagne, Illinois; Ida Hopkins of Booneville, Missouri; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives.
