Life’s Reflection

Gloria Jeanette Ward Frye was born September 9, 1942 in Jackson, Mississippi to Ella Norwood. Gloria passed away on April 5, 2017.

Gloria grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, attending school in the Kansas City, Kansas School District, graduating from Sumner High School in 1960.  After high school Gloria attended Trade School at IBM in Kansas City, where she took Data Entry courses and she also attended Donnelly College. On May 4, 1961. Gloria married her high school sweetheart James Frye.

Gloria worked at the National Shirt Shop as a Sale Representative from 1970-1974, as a cashier for American Council for the Blind from 1979-1978. She retired from DST Systems Output Technologies as a Laser Operator and Mail Sorter 1997-2006. After retirement she went on to work for AARP/SCSEP as a receptionist and food prep worker 2007-2009, and also worked as a receptionist for Community Line in 2009 and Voter Right in 2013.

She was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.

Gloria had many hobbies, she loved Bingo, going to the Casino, playing games on her computer, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, and friends, shopping for bargains at Thrift Stores, partying and two-stepping, but most of all Gloria loved helping anyone who needed help.

Gloria was preceded in death by son, Terry Frye; daughter, Crystal Frye; granddaughter, Charon Sherman; son-in-law, Christopher Stinson; brothers, Michael Norwood; and Sam Ward; mother, Ella B. Norwood; grandmother, Beatrice Beasley; great grandmother, Luella Jackson.

Left to mourn Gloria’s memories husband, James Frye of Kansas City, Missouri; her children, Mrs. Carla Lora (Carlton Lora); Carmen Stinson (Patrick); Mrs. Cher’ron Reyes (Daniel Reyes); Cher’reese Frye (Carlos); Cha’keta Frye; sons, Gregory Frye, Sr. (Mrs. Diann Frye); Kevin Frye, Sr.; Andre Frye; Michael Frye; a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister, Carla Norwood; close friend, Wanda White; and Georgia Adams; other relatives, friends not mentioned but not forgotten.

Mama we love you and all of your children are going to miss you so much.  We could not have asked for a better mother.  You were there when we needed you, as well as when other people needed you too.  We have so many memories of you that no matter how much time passes we will never forget about you.  All of your children have said that we will keep in touch with each other with a (phone) or a visit daily or weekly.  We are going to take care of each other like you have taken care of Us.
