George Johnson Obituary

Reflections of Life

George was born on December 9, 1947, the second of three children born to Operee Johnson, in Ringgold, Louisiana.  He attended Southside High School from elementary through high school and graduated in 1966. George then went on to attend Grambling University in Grambling, Louisiana.  George united in marriage to Earlene Phenix and together they had two sons, Deric Dewayne Johnson and Marcus DeJuan Johnson.  On October 24, 1987, he married the love of his life Sharon E. Cole-Barnett.  To this union they were blessed to raise his sons Deric and Marcus and bonus son Anthony Barnett, and daughter, Shalita Cole.

In 1968, George began his career at Hallmark Cards where he worked for 33 years retiring in 2001. In addition to Hallmark, George began working for HR Block in 1990 where he worked for 29 years, until his health no longer allowed him to work.

George had a passion for bowling and enjoyed playing chess. He also loved to play a good ole game dominos with family and friends.

George was preceded in death by two special men in his life, Emanuel Rambo and Andrew Parker; and his sons, Deric Johnson and Marcus Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Johnson; his mother, Operee Iverson; two children, Shalita Cole and Anthony Barnett; his brothers, Adolph Johnson (Armer Jean) and Vernon Parker; one daughter-in-law, Belinda Johnson; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
