Life Reflections
Dorothy Jean Huey was born on August 21, 1929 in Waldo, Arkansas to Johnny Hayes and Beulah Farris. Dorothy grew up in Texarkana, Arkansas before moving to Kansas City, Kansas at the age of nine years old. She graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1947. After high school she began working for the Internal Revenue Service. She also worked at Social Security Administration for a number of years. After retiring from the Social Security Administration, she worked for Trinity Lutheran Hospital. She retired after 52 years of combined service.
Dorothy loved the Lord and faithfully served Him throughout her life! She was an active member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, first joining in 1940. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vice-President of the Missionary Department, President of the Youth Choir and member of the Mass Choir. She also helped organize the first library of the church.
Dorothy married Thurman K. Huey on August 20, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas. They were happily married for 43 years. When not involved with family and/or church events, Dorothy loved reading the newspaper, solving word puzzles, watching sports and cheering on her personal sports heroes, LeBron James and Tiger Woods.
Dorothy Jean Huey, 89 passed away on December 1, 2018 at her home in Tonganoxie, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Hayes and Beulah Farris; husband, Thurman K. Huey; son, Bryan K. Huey, I; and granddaughter, Brittany Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Cassandra J. Heard of Tonganoxie, Kansas; and Vanessa L. Williams of Kansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Stacy King; Damon Williams; Jason Heard; and Bryan Huey, II; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
