Life Reflections

David Green was born January 26, 1943, in Jackson, Mississippi. David was the oldest of eleven children.

David received formal education and training in the Hinds County School District, graduating in 1963 from Jim Hill Jr/Sr. High School.  In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War.  In 1968 David received a Honorable Discharge from the Military.

Years later David moved to Denver, Colorado where his immediate family (Mother, younger sisters and brothers) had moved to from Mississippi. He joined Jordan A.M.E. Church and worshiped there with his Mother.  David decided that the Colorado Rocky Mountains were beautiful, but Kansas City Kansas was where his heart felt happiest so, he moved back to Kansas but, he remained a loyal Broncos Fan.

In Kansas City, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad and retired from that employment.  David was a member of First Baptist Church-Quindaro under the leadership of Rev. Lemuel E. Wynn.  David loved the LORD and was drawn closer to him in the twilight of his life. For this, we praise God for David’s faith in the LORD.

He was a family man.  He loved his wife and children: Johnny, Erika, and TaJuane. He loved being around family and friends. Some of his hobbies included bowling, fishing, cooking, and collecting model trains.  He truly loved his four-legged friends.  He loved and respected people and that feeling was reciprocated towards him.

As a big brother, he was easy to talk to but, he would also sternly advise us to keep in step with the teachings of our Mother “Madea”.

His parents, Cornelius Green; and Marie Whitlock Green; one brother, Cornelius; all whom preceded him in death.

David surrendered his earthly vessel into the hands of our waiting Savior, Jesus The Christ. He transitioned on Thursday, November 16, 2017.

He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Johnny Cornell Smith of Raytown, MO; Erika Danae Green-Wallace of Kansas City, MO; TaJuane (Tanya) Lister of Grandview, MO; four grandchildren: Skyy D. Smith  of Atlanta, GA; Jasmine R. James of Louisville, KY; Michelle L.Smith of Syracuse, NY; Kaliya Ja’Nae Reed of Kansas City, MO; Tavion M. Lister; Trequan M. Lister; Tyrek M. Lister; Tiana M.
