Curtis Wayne Gentry

Curtis Wayne Gentry, 74 passed away on June 24, 2018 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was born on July 5, 1943 in Idabel, Oklahoma to C.W. and Ruby L. Gentry.  Curtis grew up in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Topeka High School in Topeka, Kansas in 1961.  After high school he attended the Detroit Institute of Technology in Detroit, Michigan where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.  He later began working for the Detroit Institute of Technology as a Director where he remained for 5 years.  He then moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he worked at the University of Louisville as a Professor in Engineering and Writing Skills for 8 years.  He then moved to Tampa Florida and worked for the Department of Corrections.  He served as a Probation Officer for 10 years and retired in 2001.

Curtis married Helen V. Goins in 1972 in Detroit, Michigan and they recently celebrated 46 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Ruby Gentry; siblings, Lois Gentry and Merle Gentry; grandson, Antonnio Gentry.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Helen Gentry of Kansas City, Kansas; Daughters, Carla (Jay) Parker and TaLona M. Gentry; son, Nathaniel Gentry all of Topeka, Kansas.  He also leaves brothers, Jesse Gentry, Kansas City, Missouri; Andy (Pam) Gentry, Topeka, Kansas; Dwight (Terri) Gentry, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and sisters, Ruby L. Gentry, Topeka, Kansas; V. Diane (Richard) Moore, Kansas City, Kansas; and Dwana (Larry) Spurlock, Kansas City, Kansas; 7 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
