Comerita Parks

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight. Comerita S. Parks was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Fianna Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas after a lengthy illness.  It was a moment for which she was prepared in faith, hope and love. 

Comerita was born in Foreman Oklahoma on January 22, 1922 to Cheeseman and Bessie (Partlow) Stamps, the second oldest of four children.   She moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1925, where she united with Trinity A.M.E. Church, along with her family, and remained a faithful member until her death. 

The following family members preceded her in death, parents; husband, Harold C. Parks, Sr; son, Harold C. Parks, Jr; and three siblings, Mary Stamps; James Stamps; and Leroy Stamps. 

Comerita attended Keeling and Stowe elementary schools, Northeast Junior High School and was a member of the Sumner High School Class of 1939, all in Kansas City, Kansas.

Harold C. Parks and Comerita Stamps were united in holy matrimony on December 30, 1941.  They were the parents of four children.  Comerita worked for Fashionbilt Garment Company for over 35 years. She was also a longtime member of the Socialite and Satellite Civic and Social Clubs where she worked in various offices. 

Comerita was an active member of Trinity A.M.E. Church.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of the Celestial Choir, Paramount Workers and the Modern Matrons.  The roles she enjoyed the most at Trinity were serving as a Deaconess and providing communion to the sick and shut in.

 In 2011, when her health began to fail, Comerita moved to Poteau, Oklahoma to reside with her daughter and son in law.   While there, she attended Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas and Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Poteau, Oklahoma.  While there, she was the Assistant Editor for the quarterly Good News Letter publication. 

Comerita leaves to cherish her memory: son, Ronald Parks (Barbara) of Grandview, Missouri; daughters, Yvonne Brooks (Roger, Sr.) of Emporia, Kansas; and Yvette Ezell (Joey) of Poteau, Oklahoma; cousin, Albert Partlow of Compton, California; sister in law, Audrey Kemp of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces, Bernadine Lewis; and Delores J. Bazy of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Ronald Parks, Jr. of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Robyn Miller (Anthony) of Kansas City, Missouri; Monica Brasfield of Kansas City, Missouri; Roger Brooks Jr (Takama) of Springdale, Arkansas; Jason Brooks (Lakeitha) of Emporia, Kansas; Ronnell Parks of Augusta, Georgia; Rodney Parks of Kansas City, Kansas; Harold C. Parks, III; Terry Parks both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Courtney Bolden (Kenji) of Valdosta, Georgia; a host of great grandchildren and friends.   She is also survived by two faithful childhood friends, Verdaine Curry and Voltie Nelson, both of Kansas City, Kansas.
