Carey Jule Foster was born January 6, 1921, in Arkansas to the union of Jule and Verdia Carey Foster. He was the second of four children. Carey was preceded in death by his Parents, and siblings; brother Clarence Foster, sisters Lilla Foster Jones and Hazel Foster Taylor.
His childhood was spent in Kansas City Kansas where he attended Sumner High School, played on the basketball team, and graduated in 1939. After graduation, Carey relocated to Los Angeles, California. It was there he married, Hazel Wiley in 1949. To this union his only daughter was born, Veda Darlene Foster in Los Angeles, California. Carey was an excellent provider to his family. During his tenure in California he worked as an insurance Salesman and later worked as a Tire salesman before leaving sunny California.
Carey, relocated back to Kansas City, where he continued his automotive career and became the First African American new car Salesman for Sherril Minter Ford Inc, located on Minnesota Ave in Kansas City. Carey later worked for his lifelong friend, Arthur (Sonny) Selectman, at Perfection Automotive. After his retirement, Carey relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, to be with his daughter, Veda, until his passing.
Carey had a passion for cars, travel, enjoyed many road trips around the country, and traveled abroad to Mexico and Europe. He was an avid swimmer and won many awards and medals. Carey was a diet disciplined man and was a vegetarian for over 40 years despite his love for pound cake with ice cream.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter; Veda Darlene Foster Lewis; one granddaughter; LaVeda Heather Carey Lewis; one grandson; Carey William Wiley Lewis (Latasha); one niece, Verdia White; three nephews, Henry (Sharon); Joseph (Peggy); and Jonathan (Susan) Taylor; a host of family and friends.
