Life’s Reflections

Bernice L. Randall Jackson was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 10, 1954 to Tommie and Helen Randall.

She graduated in 1972 from Sumner High School and attended Donnelly College.  Bernice was employed as Business Manager, Continuing Education Department of the University of Kansas Medical Center at the time of her passing.  She was employed there for 35 years, serving with dignity, grace and compassion.

Bernice was married to her childhood sweetheart, Jimmie Jackson for 42 years.  She lived her “dash” in this life by serving others.  She is an active member of Women-Healing from Inside Out Women’s Ministry.  She was formerly active in the ministry of Allen Chapel AME Church, Kansas City, Kansas serving as a Stewardess, Usher Board member, Member of the Woman 2 Woman Ministry, Assistant Director of the Children’s Ministry, and member of the Women’s Missionary Society.  She was an “activist” for the rights of all people.  Whenever she was confronted with a wrong, she set about correcting them.

She was a member of the Kansas City, Kansas Ad Hoc Committee against Crime.  Bernice loved children and has facilitated many Children’s enrichment programs, ensuring that they had the spiritual and secular tools to lead a productive life.

A few of the reflections of family members are:  she is remembered as a mother figure to all of her nieces and nephews; she always made sure that they had socks and mittens every year; her laugh and smile was awe inspiring; she was a great listener, she was faithful, and loyal, she was very supportive, a friend, a confidant, a sister of sisters.  She never sugar coated life’s challenges.  She cared deeply for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She LOVED her family unequivocally.  She was a great cook and an excellent provider.

Bernice was recognized by the life she lived receiving the following awards (just to name a few):

Women of Excellence Award – Allen Chapel A.M.E Church

Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award- Allen Chapel A.M.E Church

University of Kansas Medical Center External Affairs Ally Award.

Noted in the top 10 for having the best audits

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Tommie and Helen Randall; her brother, Philip  (Butch) E. Randall, Sr.; brother in law, Rev. Huie Cunningham;  sisters in law, Frances Gordon and Mary Randall preceded her in death.

God reached into this garden of life and carried Bernice home to be with Him on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.  He released her body from the pain she had endured so many years.
