ROGER JEFFREY DOWNS, SR.

Roger Jeffrey Downs, Sr. 82 passed away on April 5, 2024 at Medical Lodge Post Acute Facility in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on January 9, 1942, in Kansas City, Kansas to Charles W. and Rosie M Sherman Downs, Sr.

Roger grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas.

He began work for Fairbanks & Morse – Pump Division as a welder where he worked for 15+ years. He also worked for B & G Maintenance in the Federal building until he took ill.

He married Jessie Mae Elmore and Roger Jr was conceived. He later was engaged to Constance Cole. To this union Rosalynne J., Anthony D., and Trevour Downs. After this union dissolved, he married Joyce and Jeffrey was born.

He was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church by Rev. David Gray.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Rosie Downs, his brother Maurice (Amo) Downs, his sisters Janice Norwood and Karen (Tammie) Childress and grandson Jeffrey Downs, Jr., and his nephew Joe Slater III.

Roger is survived by his children Roger Downs, Jr., Anthony D. Cole (Dr. Catherine), Trevour E. Downs, and Rosalynne J. Cole; his grandchildren DeMarcus, Marquis, Nicholas, Ryon, and Giovanni; his siblings: Charles Downs, Jr., David W. Downs (Lovina), sisters Della Robinson Hockett (Andrew), Nomie Rodriguez (Silvester), Rita Downs, and Carla W. Edwards; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
