ANDREW LEWIS Obituary

Andrew Gilbert Lewis passed away at his residence on March 30, 2024. Andrew was born on February 2, 1959, in Passaic, NJ to Ira and Reba DeGroat Lewis.

Andrew grew up in Passaic, NJ., Andrew graduated from  Passaic Senior High School in NJ. in 1977. After high school, Andrew attended Shaw University at the School of Psychology and Business in Raleigh, NC.

Andrew joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1977 and served for 15 years. Andrew also joined the  Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1993 and served for 11 years. during his military service, Andrew served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm. He was the recipient   of a Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct medal, Global War on Terrorism, Expedition Army medal, Global War on Terrorism service medal, National Defense  service medal, (2nd award) Southwest Asia service medal with 3 Bronze Service Star (BSS) Armed Services Reserve medal, Armed Forces Reserve medal with “M” device (2nd award), Andrew was retired in 2004, achieving the rank of SSgt.  

Andrew began work for General Motors Corp where he retired after 30 years as a team leader on the assembly line. Andrew married Janice in 2009 in Muncie, Indiana, they were happily married for 15 years. Andrew, as an Elder of the New Jerusalem Apostolic Church enjoyed fishing, football, baseball, and fellowshipping with the brethren of the Heart of America Council Of Churches. 

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Reba, and siblings Keith, Jennifer, and Martha.

Andrew is survived by his spouse Janice of Kansas City, KS. His son Dominique Hedges of Delaware and his daughters Desiree Pugh of Kansas City, KS, and Antiana and Tawanna of Arkansas. His grandchildren Jeremiah, Meriah, and Olivia. His brothers Ira of Alabama, George of South Carolina, and Billy of North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives.
