Life’s Reflections

Wilfred L. Courtney, Sr. was born to Birdie Harris-Allen on November 14, 1934 in Collins, Arkansas. The family moved to the Kansas City area where Wilfred became a member of the St. Luke AME Church at an early age. He attended and graduated from Sumner High School.

Wilfred joined the United States Navy in 1954. He dedicated twenty plus years of his life serving our country before retiring.

After retiring from the Navy, he went on to work as a bus driver for the Kansas City Kansas school district where he again retired.

One of his favorite things to do was ride his motorcycle; he served many years as the President of the Black Angels motorcycle club. He then went on to become a member of the Crusaders.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories; one sister, Laverne Courtney Robinson (Theodore) of Kansas City, Kansas; four sons: Wilfred L Courtney, Jr. (Evelyn), and Michael Courtney of Kansas City, Kansas; Danny Courtney (Stephanie) of Lathrop, California; Darryl Courtney (Eva) of Antioch, California: three daughters: Trudy Weekes (Norman) of Castro Valley, California; Cynthia Truesdale (Walter) of Vallejo, California; LaRhonda Courtney of Hayward, California; a very special friend and confident Phyllis Hewlett-Brunson, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
