Life Reflection’s

Wayne Lee Champ was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 24, 1958, to Robert and Marie Champ. He was the second child of four (Robert Jr.; Maurice; and Joy Darlene Champ). Wayne grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was well known and loved by many.

Wayne was educated in the public school system of Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Abbott Elementary, Northwest Jr. High and he graduated from Wyndotte High School in 1976. Throughout his high school years Wayne played basketball and was voted most fashionable along with his sister-in-law, Norma Champ. After graduation, he attended Donnelly Community College to purse his education.

Wayne was the loving father of two beautiful children, Brandi Lashaun and Porsha Adreene Champ. Diane Herrill is the loving mother of his first daughter Brandi; and Lue Bertha Champ (Pepper) was his wife of 31 years and the mother of his second daughter Porsha Adreene Champ.

Wayne worked at Central Bags Company in Kansas City, Kansas until he met Lue Bertha. After years of dating the two decided to reside in Los Angeles, California where he began a working career in security for the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team. He was such a great employee, the Lakers staff presented him with 3 back-to-back Championship rings. Wayne also worked 16 years for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Wayne loved God. He was a member of Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, California. Wayne loved watching NFL (Raiders), and The Laker games. He loved cars and found joy in just keeping them spotless. He loved driving and always ventured out to take the scenic routes to behold the beauty of Gods creations. He was always a very happy fun loving person, a friend to everyone.

We will remember Wayne as generous, popular, humorous, handsome, and warm  . . . and as a very astute dresser with impeccably clean shoes on. He would never say goodbye rather “later.” He truly cared about everyone and touched the lives of all he came in contact with. Wayne was cool and had swag (let’s not forget his swagger), but most of all, Wayne Lee Champ was truly an angel amongst us.

Wayne’s father Robert Champ Sr. preceded him in death on October 2, 2011.

Wayne leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 31 years Lue Bertha Champ (his Pepper) of Inglewood, California; two daughters: Brandi Lashaun Champ of Kansas City, Kansas and Porsha Adreene Champ of Tustin, California; three grandchildren: Brandon Patrick Lee Keens of Kansas City, Kansas; Mya Champ Ramsey of Tustin, California; Aden Andrew Lee Williams of Kansas City, Kansas; his beautiful mother, Anna Marie Champ of Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Robert Champ Jr. (Norma) of Kansas City, Kansas; and Lawrence M. Champ of Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters; Donna F. Bank of Richmond, Virginia; and Joy Darlene Champ of Kansas City, Kansas; one uncle Donald Boyd of Kansas City, Kansas; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends
