Life’s Reflection

Travestine “Trav” (Myers) Love was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1923 in Blackwell, Arkansas to John Wesley Myers, Sr. and Johnnie Mae (Neely) Myers.  She was the second of four children.  The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1925.

Trav began her education at Grant Elementary School, then on to Northeast Junior High School and in 1941 she graduated from Sumner High School. After graduation, Travestine would continue to participate and celebrate in her class reunion functions.

Travestine always loved dancing or “cuttin a rug” as she would say.  She loved to create dance moves and her dream was to become a choreographer.

She met the love of her life, Clarence C. Love, Sr. and it was indeed a match made in heaven!

Clarence C. Love, Sr. and Travestine Myers fell in love and were married on May 11, 1941.  They were married for 56 years before State Representative Clarence C. Love, Sr., passed on to glory.  From this happy and loving union five children were born, Marva Chrystal, Cheryl Christie, Travestine (Baby Travy), Terri Lynn, and Clarence C., Jr. (Lovie, Jr.).

Travestine loved being a wife, mother; homemaker, and raising not only her children, but nurturing her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and anyone else that needed comforting.  Mother Love would not hesitate to make a “pallet” down for sleeping and was known as the “Pallet Queen”.

Mother Love, loved to cook, shop, and spend quality time with family, but more than life itself, God the Father was her number one love. The family took many vacation trips together, traveling across country, and camping, but the highlight of her trips was visiting Washington D.C., and the tour through the White House.

God was always number one in Mother Loves’ life, she join Historical Allen Chapel A. M. E. Church in 1947... While at Allen Chapel she participated in the following ministries; Usher Board, Willing Workers, Kitchen Committee, Published Bulletins, sang in the Choir under the direction of Sarah Sims, and cleaned the church. She was on the committee responsible for installing the first bathroom in the church.  She raised all five of her children at Allen Chapel and helped with putting on children plays and programs.
