Life’s Reflection

Rodney Dontroy Johnson was born August 9, 1966 to Brenda Joyce Johnson and John Henry (Spider) Johnson at General Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Brenda moved her family to Kansas City, Missouri in the summer of 1972, and that is where Rodney received his education in the Kansas City Public School District.

Rodney (Pooh) accepted Christ at an early age and had a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and was a member in good standing of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City Missouri. Pooh was a vibrant, outgoing person always on the go and doing things. He liked working with his hands and enjoyed fixing cars, lawn mowers, or just about anything that had an engine, and would always help a friend work on their car or whatever he could do to assist them.

His passion was fishing, which he loved to do as well as a good game of dominoes, and he loved to bar-b-que, but most of all he was a jokester always making you laugh about something crazy he had said. Rodney loved to travel and would hit the highway to Tahlequah often, his favorite phrase was “let's roll out”.

He worked at Harold's Diner for 8 years until he decided to start his own lawn care business. His hard work and dedication to that was a good fit for him until his health got the best of him and he could no longer do it...

Rodney (Pooh) departed this life to be with the Lord at 12:10 A.M. on September 3, 2015. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ross and Louise Johnson; and paternal grandparents, Noble Johnson; and Cleffteen Ridgeway; mother Brenda; father John; as well as a daughter, Alexis Star Johnson; a brother, Ronald Johnson; and a sister, Jackie Keys-Mayberry.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory a son, Sir Nikkos T. Johnson; a daughter, Joyce Star Johnson; three grandchildren, Kaliyah E. Johnson; Sir Nikkos T. Johnson, Jr.; and Khalen C. Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri;  his lifetime partner, Paula Petrie; two stepdaughters, Cherletta Pouncil; and Dominique Petrie all of Kansas City Missouri; six brothers, Gary Johnson (Lacey); Robin Johnson; Jon Eric Johnson; Darren Spears all of Kansas City Missouri; Rodney Green of Long Beach, California; and Tyrone Harris of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four Sisters, Tina Johnson of Kansas City Missouri; Corinthians Nelson (Daryl); Lametria McDowell of Tahlequah Oklahoma; and Jamelia Johnson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; four nieces, Ebony Johnson of Overland Park Kansas; Estasha Johnson; and Lonnisha Johnson of Kansas City Missouri; and Antoinette Johnson of Bradenton, Florida; he also leaves a dear true friend, Tammy Shannon of GrainValley Missouri; as well as a host of other aunts; uncles; nephews; nieces; cousins; and friends to mourn his passing.
