Pastor Charles E. Mitchell, Sr., was born April 24, 1941 in Dumas, Arkansas to Jessie and Shirley Mitchell. His mother later united in marriage to Oscar Poole where he was raised and nurtured at a young age. His stepfather had a great influence in his life.

He accepted  Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend Gordon of Owens Chapel Baptist Church of Dumas, Arkansas.

He was educated in the Dumas Arkansas School District.

He moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he held several jobs.  He was self-employed as owner of the Amoco Service Station at Paseo & Truman Road, District Supervisor for JET TV Rental and retired from Sante Fe Railroad after 32 years of service on September 3, 2005.

He was ordained as a deacon at Brown Chapel Missionary Baptist Church; under the leadership of the late O.L. Brown, and later became Assistant Pastor of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert Moore.

He supported world peace and was dedicated to providing spiritual growth and guidance where needed.  In addition to his call to the ministry, Pastor Charles E. Mitchell, Sr., served as a member of the Baptist Ministers Union and has conducted a successful nursing home ministry throughout the greater metropolitan Kansas City, area for over 10 years being accompanied by his “Charlie   Angels”.

He was called to Pastor the 47th Street Missionary Baptist Church in September 2003 where he dedicated his life, time and efforts to following the steps ordered by Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Oscar Poole; a brother, Joe Willie Poole and  three sisters, Archie Mae Pealer, Emma Tanner and Shirley Ann Poole.

Pastor Charles E. Mitchell, Sr. is the father of (5) children, Faye Alsup (Thurston) of Liberal, KS, Regina Mitchell of  Evansville, IN, Wonder Golden( John) of Kansas City, KS, Paula Gentry (Dwayne) of Little Rock, AR, Charles E. Mitchell, Jr. of Washington, Pennsylvania; three stepdaughters, Andrea Regina Downs (Roger); Tammara Kemp Williams of Las Vegas, NV; and Carmen Davis; (Edward) of Kansas City, KS; sisters, Mary Poole, Pine Bluff, AR, Barbara Warren (Curtis) of Farmersville, LA; Debra Holcomb (Darren) of Little Rock, AR; Angelia Poole Williams (Larry); two brothers, David Poole (Genievea) and  Jim Poole of  Dumas, AR; (22) grandchildren; (28) great grand-children; and (9) great great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
