Life’s Reflection

Leon Edward Dean, Jr. was born October 26, 1950 in Kansas City, Kansas to Leon Dean, Sr. and Pearlie Mae Dean.  He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from the historical Sumner High School in the Class of 1968.

Leon began working at an early age at POP Jenks and Ferguson Shoe Shine Parlors.  Also while attending Sumner High School, he was employed at Douglas Hospital in Kansas City, KS and upon graduation began working at Rock Island Railroad.  He landed his career job as Plant Manager at Brad Ragan, Inc., later known as Goodyear.  After 30 years of service, he retired in January 2000.

Leon married the Love of His Life, Birdie R. Dobbins, October 27th, 1968 at Trinity AME Church, Kansas City, Kansas.  They were happily married 47 years.  Leon was one of the past presidents with Semi-Tough Bowling Club.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling and solving the problems of Wyandotte County along with the Worlds problems.

Leon was preceded in death by his Parents, Leon and Pearlie Dean, two Sisters, Cora Wagner and Betty Jones.  His Son, Leon Edward Dean, III also preceded him in death.

Leon is survived by his lovely wife, Birdie R. Dean of Kansas City, Ks.  His sons Lee M. Dean and LeEdward Lamont Dean (both of Kansas City, KS).  One Daughter, Angela Bolden of Grandview, MO, one Sister, Patricia A. Woolridge (Kansas City, KS), one Brother, Lester B. Dean (Beverly) of Wichita, KS, his Mother-In-Law, Alberta Dobbins of Kansas City, Ks., 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, Aunts, Emma Nelson, (Los Angeles, CA), Julia M. Briscoe, (Kansas City, KS), Ersalene Lee (Garfield Heights, OH), Georgia Hill (Cleveland, OH), Uncles, Edwin Dean (Hazel), Raymore, MO), William Hill, Jr. (Grandview, MO), Elbert Hill (Las Vegas, NV), JD Hill (Kansas City, MO) and Maryland J. Donald (Tucson, AZ), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
