Lela Louise (Gee) Matthews

Life’s Reflection

Lela Louise Matthews, 92, passed away on June 15, 2017 at Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was born on May 5, 1925 in Kansas City, Kansas to Michael Gee and Mabel Hendricks Gee.  She grew up and graduated from High School in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was a Homemaker and Community Volunteer.  She was employed by Catholic Charities and Foster Grandparents for three years.  She retired at ninety years old.

She met and married Leo Matthews in the late 60’s, two children were born to their union, Leo Matthews, Jr. and Leon Matthews. They moved to California to enjoy like, they resided there for years before moving back to Kansas, making here their home.

She united with the Salem Baptist Church, were she was a member for over forty years.

Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Matthews; both sons, Leo Matthew, Jr. and Leon Matthews.

She leaves to cherish her memory an adopted son, Brandon Matthews; grandson, DeAndre Matthews, both of Atlanta, Georgia; a 99-year-old sister, Mabel (Aunt Margie) Gee Brown of Hawthorne, California; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was a wife, a mother, a homemaker, an auntie, and friend.
