Life’s Reflection

LaVerne G. Hatchett James was called from her earthly home to her eternal rest Monday, June 29, 2015. She was disabled and sick for many years. LaVerne was born June 13, 1956 to George Burton, Sr. and Gladys Hatchett in Kansas City Kansas.  She attended Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and, graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1974.

LaVerne accepted Christ at the age of twelve and was baptized. She became a member of the Eight Street Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. T. Maynard Preston. She sung in the children's choir and later became a member of the I. H. Henderson Teenage Choir. She also attended Sunday School and BTU.

LaVerne was united in marriage to Adrian E. James in 1975. To this union, two children were born. She traveled extensively overseas with Adrian during his career in the United States Army. They lived in Germany for many years before returning to the United States.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her son; Darnell James, father;

George Burton, Sr., her brother; Dexter Hatchett, three half-brothers William, Stanley and George R. Burton, two half-sisters; Faye Burton-Turner, Brenda Mansaw, and a nephew Cain Cloud.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband; Adrian James, son; Dominick James (Columbus, Ohio), mother; Gladys Hatchett, two sisters; Shirley Brown (Fred) Independence, Kansas, Joyce Wyatt (Moses) Kansas City, Kansas, three step sisters; Georgia Potter, Kansas City, Kansas, Rose Peghee, (California), Janice Davis of St. Louis, Missouri;  her life- long best friends; Cheryl Barksdale, Renay Jackson, Wilene Jones, Wanda Paige, all of Kansas City, Kansas and Lois Davis-Leath, Port Saint Lucie, Florida; her Special friend; Patrick Bettis Jr. and his Mother Mrs. Leola Bettis.
