Life’s Reflections

Kathleen Wilson Scott was born November 18, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was her mother's second born of seven children. The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas when Kathleen was very young. She was preceded in death by her mother & father, Robert & Rosalee Gilliam; brother, Anthony Hayes; son, Jeffery 'Goldie' Gilliam; and 2 nephews.

Kathleen attended Kansas City, KS public schools and later earned a GED. This did not keep her from later earning a Certificate in Accounting through a correspondence course (CLEP). Her children thought they were going to the library for fun three times a week…little did they know she was better enriching her life while enriching theirs.  She, then, began employment and worked over 40 years with Walker's Electric and 20 years with Ben's Supermarket as their bookkeeper.

She was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life, the Lord led her to join and grow spiritually as an active member at Evangelistic Center. Until her health began to decline, Kathleen could always be found at the church either attending a service or working in ministry in some capacity. She held various positions in the church but her greatest joys were teaching Sunday School and working in the children's ministry. One of her most favorite events was the annual Royalty on Parade. Kathleen truly loved every child she worked with and taught. She always impressed on the children the importance of following God's word, being honest, and loving others.

When not at church, Kathleen was always with her family. She enjoyed taking her niece's to the movies as well as going to the movies with her sisters. Weekly, she and her sister Leona would compete in Scrabble. Those Scrabble games continued even while her health was declining and she moved her residence to Life Care Center. Kathleen never gave up. She displayed total strength and a hopeful attitude. She continued with activities she loved. She used her amazing artistic gifts to teach art classes at the center to other residents and also created art pieces for them to have. She believed in exercising the brain by working puzzles. She was an expert in putting together 1,000 piece puzzles rather quickly, completing crossword and Sudoku puzzles.

Kathleen was able to attend church with her family her last Sunday on this earth. She worshipped and praised God like never before. God had prepared her to transition to her new heavenly home.

She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Theodore Wilson; and Anthony Wilson both of Kansas City KS; 2 daughters, Jacqueline Hill (Donald) Phoenix, AZ; Camille Johnson (Paul)  Olathe, KS; 4 grandchildren, Carma, Caressa; Arian Marie; and Ishmael; 3 great-grandchildren, Khari; Camya; and Jaiven; 2 brothers, Donzell Gilliam  Los Angeles, CA; Rudolph Gilliam  Pennsauken, NJ; 3 sisters, Leona Anthony; and Deborah Ray both of Kansas City, KS; Melinda Byrd of Raytown, MO; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
