Life’s Reflections

For

Johnny Pender, Jr.

Johnny Pender Jr. passed away on January 6, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was born December 23, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona to Johnny and Charity Jackson Pender.  His father, brother, Lonnell and sister, Melba preceded him in death.

Johnny’s family moved to Kansas City and he graduated from Sumner High School in 1963.  He worked at several companies before being employed by KCPL.  He was a hard worker, took his job very seriously and moved from janitor to control operator in a short period of time.  He retired in 2004 after 34 years.  He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined St. Peter C. M. E. Church in 1992.  He was a member of the Guiding Light Board and participated in The Lord’s Table feeding ministry until his health began to fail.  Johnny was married to Joyce Green and 2 sons, Terrence and Reginald were born to this union.  This union was dissolved and in 1992 he married Margaret Brown Smith.  His family was extended to 2 more sons, 2 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  One of his favorite hobbies was flying and he received his pilot’s certificate.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memory his wife Margaret, mother, Charity Pender; 2 sons, Terrence and Reginald; 2 step sons, Sammie Davis (Vanessa); Frank Boswell; 2 step daughters, Stacie Simpson (LeVoide); and Tracie Davis; grandchildren Rickie (Kristy), Monica, Ryan, Rolando (Cynthia), Imari, Aleigha, LeVoide III, Samantha, Savannah, Sabrina, Sierra, and Sienna; 3 great grandchildren Jayden, Rickie III and Amina; 5 siblings – Kenneth R. Harrison (Evelyn), Patricia Greene (Leroy), Phyllis Edwards, Beverly Pender and Brenda Harris (Charles); a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.  And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

- John 14:1-4
