Janice Marie Wilson

Janice Marie Wilson age 69, passed on May 7, 2017 at Kansas City Hospice, in Kansas City, MO.  Janice was born on July 31st, 1947 to the union of Bettye J. Howze-mother of Kansas City, KS and father-Neal Riden Sr. of Parsons, KS. Both parents have preceded her in death. Janice had grandparents, Sallie L. Powell and Harry S. Powell of Kansas City, KS that also assisted in her raising.  Both grandparents have preceded Janice in death.

Janice grew up in Kansas City and received her early grade school education from Dunbar South.  She then attended Junior High School from both Northeast and Northwest Jr. High where she became a cheerleader. Janice attended Sumner High School and graduated in the Class of 1965. One of Janice's many memorable moments while attending high school was when she was nominated and attended the Debutantes Ball with her grandfather. She went on to pursue a college education attending the Kansas State Teachers College, in Emporia, KS.  She later transferred to Southwest Missouri State, Springfield, MO., and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.   She continued her education to receive her Master’s Degree from Southwest Missouri State.

Janice later married Ed Wilson-divorced of St. Louis, MO., to this union one son, Jomo K. Wilson was born and proceeds her in death.  Janice taught in the Kansas City, KS School District for several years before she moved to the Washington D.C. area to continue teaching for over 20 years.  Janice returned to the Kansas City area where she taught in the Kansas City, MO. School system for several more years before retiring from full-time to part-time teaching.

Janice has a surviving Great Aunt, Gussia Butler of Kansas City, MO who she dedicated herself and assisted with her care for over 10 years until her failing health. Janice accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and grew up in what was formerly known as Mason Memorial United Methodist Church Kansas City, Ks. Janice transferred her membership to Centennial United Methodist Church to assist her aunt. Anyone who knew Janice knows she loved children and people in general. She always had a smile. Janice loved to dance and anyone who ever met her knew Janice loved to dress. Janice leaves to mourn her passing a brother, Neal R. Powell of Kansas City, KS, a sister in law Lisa Kennedy, Kansas City, KS, one nephew, Anthony Riden, Fiancé Larry Green of Kansas City, MO. and a host of Friends and Relatives.
