Life’s Reflection
Idella was born in Pulaski County, Arkansas to James and Rachel Covington-Ansley.
She married Harry Sublett on February 2, 1946 and was married for 71 years. They had nine children, Lendell (Madeline) Sublett, Sr.; Arnold (Nadine) Sublett; Sandra Newsom; Sheila Davis; Kenneth (Valerie) Sublett; Beverly Sublett; Darrell Sublett; Mark Sublett; and Toni Smith; they have 23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Idella was a licensed beautician and her hair was always beautiful. For many years, she worked in Kansas City’s garment district as a piece mill worker. Because, Idella loved cooking and serving people, she became the head chef at the Martin Luther King Center, KMAT Drug Treatment Center, and a battered women’s shelter where she retired in 1993. Before and after her retirement, she worked as a seamstress with her daughter Darrell’s manufacturing company.
Idella was raised on a farm which sparked her love for nature. There wasn’t a summer that went by that she did not plant tomatoes on the side of their home even to this past year.
She was a chartered member of Salem Baptist Church and served on the usher board.
Idella is proceeded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, two children, Lendell, Sr. and Darrell; and her grandson, Doniel. She will truly be missed by her family, friends, and church family.
