Life’s Reflections

Hosie Lee Evans, Jr. was born August 25, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Hosie Lee Evans, Sr. and Ora Lee Evans.  He was the baby of four children.

Hosie and is siblings suffered the loss of their father at a young age due to an accident on the job.  His mother later married Daniel Moore, March 16, 1954 and this union brought him four additional siblings.

Hosie accepted Christ at a very early age.  He and his family were active dedicated members of Olivet Institutional Baptist Temple.  He later became a member of Metropolitan Baptist Temple until his death.

Hosie attended Sumner High School “Class of 1964” in Kansas City, Kansas.  Following high school he served in the United States Army.  Hosie proudly fought for his country in the Vietnam War.

On October 7, 1964 Hosie married Joella Talley, to this union they had two beautiful daughters.  Michelle Evans and Shawana Evans and On April 25, 2005

Hosie married the love of his life Charlotte Dorsey.  She was a devoted passionate wife who helped care for Hosie until he took his last breath.

Hosie’s occupations included being an employee of Ford Motor Company, a construction worker and a police officer.  He also worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years where he later retired.

Hosie was an avid dominoes and chess player.  He also was a jazz enthusiast, and had a impressive jazz collection.  He loved to be around family and friends, he was always the center of attention, making everyone laugh.  He was the ultimate family man, he loved his family unconditionally.

On September 9, 2016 Hosie gently closed his eyes and boarded his predestined flight into the arms of the Lord.  Upon his arrival, he was greeted by his parents, his step-father, a brother, three sisters, and one grandson, Kenneth DuPriest, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, loving and caring wife, Charlotte Evans of the home; two daughters, Michelle Peppers (J.C.) of Seneca, KS and Shawana Knox (Jay) of Kansas City, Kansas; a son, Andrew Boykins (Tanya) of Shawnee, Kansas; two grandsons, Dywane Evans, Sr. (Kulea) and Robert Hill, Jr.( Shannon); a granddaughter, Jaiene Knox (Brent)all of Kansas City, Kansas; three sisters, Gloria Johnson of Kansas City, Denise Brown(Greg) of Baton Rouge, Louisana, Mary Roseburr (Israel) of Kansas City, Missouri; 15 great grandchildren and a very special cousin, Louis Canady of California; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 Visitation 10A.M.-12:00 P.M., Services 12:00 P.M. at Forest Grove Baptist Church, 1417 North 9th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66101.  Burial Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road  Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
