Life’s Reflection

Hortense Colbert was born December6, 1925 to loving parents, James and Victoria Love in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, James Ralph Love.  Hortense made her transition to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2016.

She attended Kansas City, Kansas public schools.  Hortense professed belief in God at an early age and was always active in church.  She was a member of Salem Baptist Church for 35 years and Strangers Rest Baptist Church for 17 years.  Her employment experience includes working for Lake City Ammunition and she retired from Kansas City Life Insurance Company in 1990.

Hortense Colbert was a “classy” God-fearing lady.  She was known for her kindness, quick wit, beautiful smile, hospitality, fashion acumen and culinary skills.  Dinners at Hortense’s were a delectable experience and she was the ultimate hostess.  Her peach cobbler was legendary.  She demonstrated God’s love by the way she loved people and anyone who met her, loved her.  Though she had no children of her own, she showered her love on the children and grandchildren of her friends.

She will be truly missed by: dear friends and guardians, Rev. Jimmie and Alice Banks, Harl and Carole Newton, Antonio and Shari Slaughter, Velma Woodson, Harry Jackson, Inez Wesley, Warrick and Cynthia Graves, Janice and Harold Owens, Gloria Ervin, her friends at Sycamore Groves apartment complex and many others.
