Life‘s Reflections

Reverend Gerald T. Taylor, Sr., affectionately known as “Jerry” was called home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2015.  He was born May 31, 1949 to the union of Clayborn F. Taylor and Margaret L. Taylor of Bonner Springs, KS.  Jerry received his formal education in the Bonner Springs Public Schools and graduated in 1967.  He later received an Associate Degree in Psychology in 1993.  He was called by God and led by the Holy Spirit to become a minister in September 2004 under the Pastorial Leadership of Rev. Eddie Flakes, Jr., Blue Valley Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri.  He was employed as an EMT for Kansas City/Bonner Springs location, an early childhood teacher with Bryant Headstart and resigned at Integrity Solution Services.

Jerry received Christ at the age of 12 under the Pastorial Leadership of Reverend Russell Davis, Sr. of Brown Chapel of Bonner Springs, Kansas.  He was a lifetime Christian and devoted member of Blue Valley M.B.C.  Throughout his church tenure.  Jerry was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Pianist, Minister and Servant of God.

He loved God, his Pastor, First Lady and Church family.  Jerry took pride in his children, loving each one individually, collectively and unconditionally.

Jerry was a “people person”, never met a stranger.  He was always “the life of the party” and never shied from attention or affection, he gave that same attention and affection to all that knew him.  Jerry was an awesome cook and made a mean peach cobbler!

His willingness to service others was only one of his many attributes and he will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in transition by his grandparents, Henry Lee and Grace E. Lee; his parents, Clayborn F. Taylor and Margaret L. Taylor; two brothers, Jimmy Taylor and Richard Taylor; one sister, Carol Swiney.

Jerry is survived by his children; Gerald T. Taylor, Jr., Damion F. Taylor, Christian A. Taylor, all of Kansas City, Kansas; Mia P. Taylor McCoy (Ron) of Overland Park, KS and Siegi L. Taylor of  Kansas City,KS; one aunt Mary King of KCMO; four brothers, Delbert Taylor, Cecil Taylor, Louis Taylor, all of KCMO; and Charles Taylor of Andover, KS;  two sisters, Sharon Dennis of KCMO and Linda Wallace of KCKS, a special nephew/brother Dale Taylor of Bonner Springs, KS; 11 grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
