Essie Lee (Wilkins) Duncan

Life’s Reflection

Mrs. Essie L. Duncan, the first child of twelve brothers and sisters, was born on July 10, 1933 to Arthur Wilkins, and Malissa Lucas-Wilkins in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  Her parents; son, James Duncan, Jr.; second mother, Nicola Wilkins; three brothers; and one sister preceded her in death. 

She married James Duncan, Sr. in 1948 and then moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1951.  She was a loving wife and mother.

She was baptized at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church over 50 years ago.  She was a dedicated auxiliary member in her church.  She was passionate about singing in the church choir.  She enjoyed volunteering in her community. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, Brendia M. Bullock (Edward R. Bullock) of Memphis, Tennessee; Steven Duncan (Jo Ellen Duncan) of Olathe, Kansas; and Carla L. Holt (Michael W. Holt) of Kansas City, Kansas.  She leaves eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters; a host of relatives and friends. 

 There shall be no night there; and they shall need no candle, neither light of the sun; For the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
