Eddie Ray Taylor

Eddie R Taylor, BS,CPS, 61 transitioned from earth to his heavenly home on May 18, 2016. Eddie entered this world in Kansas City, Mo at Queen of the World Hospital on July 24, 1954. He was the first born of mother, Zera M. Taylor who proceeded him in death.

Eddie was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at King Solomon Baptist Church Kansas City, Kansas and held fast to his belief that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. Spirituality was his self-medication.

Eddie graduated from Sumner High School in the "Class of 72".  During his high school years he was known for his artistic talents as an illustrator in paintings and drawings.  An activist in the 70's and early 80' with the Kansas City, Kansas Model city program. After high school he attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Mary College.  In recognition of his outstanding merit and accomplishments he was elected to the 1995 "Who's Who among Students in American Universities & Colleges".

Eddie was a champion for Mental Health illness awareness and education within our communities and families. He worked 11 years for the Mental Health Association of the Heartland, as a Wellness and Support Advocate.  Last career position until his passing was with Wyandot Center for Community Behavioral Healthcare Inc. as a CPS, Peer Specialist. His commitment to helping the awareness and need for more resources and understanding for Mental Health Diseases was his life's passion. Longtime friend of "Common Ground "peers supporting peers and editor of "The Peer Journal".

Eddie is survived by one brother, Michael Taylor Kansas City, Kansas; one sister, Alberta Wells (John); one nephew, McKay Wells; great nephew, CamRon Wells; and one niece, Amber Lorthridge (Jason); with great nephews, Jacori and Jamir Lorthridge; great niece, Ayanna Lorthridge all of Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, he is survived by a host of devoted cousins, relatives and friends.
