Ed (Jr.) Owens

Life’s Reflection

Ed Owens, Jr. 85 passed away on July 8, 2016 at his home, in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was born on August 5, 1930 in Ashdown, Arkansas to Ed and Ollie (McFadden) Owens.

Ed grew up in Ashdown, Arkansas and graduated from Little River County Training School in Ashdown, Arkansas in 1948.  After high school joined the Army and severed for 2 years. He retired after 20 years of service with the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District. 

Ed married Laura Ann in 1953 in Ashdown, Arkansas.  They were happily married for 62 years.  Ed was a Chartered member of Guiding Star Missionary Baptist Church for 52 Years.  He enjoyed Ushering and helping others.  He also enjoyed visiting Nursing Homes, attending Sunday School, and working with Food Pantries, and Food Kitchens in the Greater Kansas City area.  He worked diligently on the Guiding Star Trustee Board.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ollie Owens; two sisters, Charlene Gandy; and Helen Baldwin. 

Ed is survived by his lovely wife Laura of Kansas City, Kansas; sisters, Ida Mae Andrew of Denver, Colorado; Lucille Harris of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother, James Owens of Kansas City, Missouri.
