Doris Smith was born on August 31, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas to Eugene and Louise Coleman. She was the only daughter, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Doris grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Keeling Elementary, Northeast Junior High School, and Sumner High School where she graduated in 1954. She was married to Norman Smith and to his union four children were born.

She worked at St. Margaret Hospital for a short time. She enjoyed a long and successful career with the Social Security Administration in Kansas City, MO retiring as a Supervisor in 2001.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Ronald and Eugene Coleman, Jr.

Doris accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and was a member of Walnut Boulevard Baptist Church.

Doris was called home to rest on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Saint Luke Hospice House.

She leaves her loving family to cherish her memory her sons Terry and Gregory Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; and Mark Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Patrice Smith-Moore (Kevin) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jason Smith; Mark Smith, II; and Taylor Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; Shanelle Smith; and Jermaine Williams-Smith of Dallas Texas; Brandon Smith; and Kevin Moore, Jr., of Minneapolis, Minnesota; One brother, Larry A. Coleman (Arlana); and 3 nephews, Gary and David Coleman; Maurice ‘Tony’ Coleman (Alicia) of Kansas City; and Dr. Kimberlee Coleman-Henderson (Othello) of Austin, Texas; 4 great grandchildren; a lifelong friend Sylvia ‘Ann’ Wash; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was a very special person and we will always cherish her memory and emulate her admirable traits.
