Doris Avon (Modest) Hoston

Life’s Reflection

Sister Doris Hoston was born April 30, 1946 in Ruston, Louisiana.  Doris was the second of six children born to the union of Mr. Roman and Mrs. Ola B. Modest.  Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jasper Modest. Doris departed this life, Tuesday morning November 8, 2016.

Sister Doris received Christ at an early age at Zion Travelers Baptist Church, in Ruston, Louisiana under the leadership of Rev. W. C. West.  Doris received her education from Lincoln High School, graduating in 1964.  Doris went on to received her Bachelor Degree, in Business from Chicago State University, of Chicago, Illinois.

Rev. Hoston and Sister Hoston then made the move to Overland Park, Kansas in June of 1986; where they joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C. L. Bachus in August of 2003.  Sister Doris participated and taught the young adults in Sunday Church School.  She was also a faithful member in the Mass Choir and a member of the 1:00 P.M. Mission Department.

Sister Doris worked at Sprint where she retired.  She then went to work for Olathe School District and retired from there in 2014.

Sister Doris leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband of fifty years, Rev. Sherman Hoston of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Shermonia Hoston; two sons, Landon Hoston; and Daren Hoston they all of Overland Park, Kansas; three god-daughters, Tierney Washington (Ramon) of Shreveport, Louisiana; Tiffany Hewitt of Ruston, Louisiana; Angela Black (J. R.) of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Ashley; and Esther Jones of Houston, Texas; and Sandra Hewitt (Ernie) of Ruston, Louisiana; one brother, Roman Modest of Ruston, Louisiana; along with a host of relatives and friends.
