Life’s Reflection

Delilah Patrice Whitley, 29 years’ young

Delilah departed her earthly home on October 5, 2016 to be with the Lord in heaven. She was born to parents, Dennis Sr & Gail Whitley on New Year’s Day, 29 years ago 01/01/1987. She was a born leader from the start making her debut as Wyandotte County's 1st baby of the New Year. She was the middle child.

She was preceded in death by both of her paternal and maternal grandparents, her uncles (Jesse Lee, Ronald, & Marvin Whitley), her aunt (Linda Pledger-Moore), and 1st cousins (Anya Whitley, Rondell Sheppard Jr, & Matt Pledger II).

Delilah confessed her faith to Christ at an early age of 8 years old at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, KCKS. She was currently a member of Friendship Baptist Church, KCMO, where she was an active member of the Young Adult Ministry and Jr. Matrons.

She completed her primary formal education from the Kansas City, Ks School District where she also worked as a 4th grade teacher for 2 years, before she had to take a short term leave of absence to undergo surgery this past summer. Delilah graduated high school from Sumner Academy Arts & Science, KCKS with honors in 2005. She then received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of Missouri (Mizzou) Columbia, Mo in 2009 with honors and in 2013 while on the Dean’s list proudly earned her Master's Degree in Elementary Ed. from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo.

Delilah loved teaching & she was eagerly awaiting her return to the classroom after her extensive medical leave. She loved all kids and they loved her dearly. Teaching was her God given talent. She tutored, mentored, and loved many kids especially her nephew (Bryan) who called her Auntie/Momma, nieces (Aniyah & her look alike twin Deidra), Godchildren and a host of cousins, friends & students. She also loved to give back and was a big sister at Big Brother Big Sisters. She was proud of being an educator and used her leadership skills in every aspect of her life.
