Life’s Reflection

Cheryl Christie (Love) Thompson was born on December 29, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas to Clarence C. Love, Sr. and Travestine (Myers) Love.  She was the second of five children. 

Cheryl began her education at Vernon Elementary School, Quindaro Elementary School and on to Northwest Junior High School.  She graduated from Wyandotte High School in the class of 1962.  Cheryl continued her education by attending Kansas City, Kansas Junior College and graduated from Emporia State Teacher’s College with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education.  She went on to Webster University where she earned her Master’s Degree.  Cheryl worked in the Kansas City, Missouri School District for thirty years.

Cheryl loved a lot of things; family, friends, dining out, games, puzzles and especially watching television.  She also loved traveling all over the World, including China.  Most of all Chery loved her “Fuzzy”! Nelson L. “Fuzzy” Thompson who was the love of her life.  They were married for forty-nine wonderful years.  Together they accomplished many things before his passing in January 2015.  Cheryl and Fuzzy did not have children but they had a brother, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many many friends of all ages.

They loved to do God’s work!

Cheryl served on a host of boards and committees.  MLK Urban Center, SCLC, Niles Home for Children, Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey, General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church, various local Church boards, planning Board for the Missouri State Legislative Convention, and the Black Caucus Convention.  She was indeed a giving person.

Cheryl Christie (Love) Thompson will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Representative Clarence C. Love, Sr. and Travestine (Myers) Love; husband, Reverend Dr. Nelson L. “Fuzzy” Thompson; sister, Marva C. Roberson; Travestine (Baby Travy) Freeland; and Terri L. Foreman; brother in law John D. “Spanky” Roberson, Jr.

Cheryl leaves to cherish her memories: her brother, Clarence C. Love, Jr. (Cynthia) of Arleta, California; brother in law, Denard Foreman of Kansas City, Kansas; three very special first cousins Delone B. Baylis, Jr.; Marvin W. Baylis; of Kansas City, Kansas; and Patricia E. Baylis of Roeland Park, Kansas; eight nieces and nephews, John Roberson, III, Darren Roberson, Sr. (Uneeda); Kristi Parker; and Eric Watson, Sr. all of Kansas City, Kansas; Alexus “CC” Love of Bakersfield, California; Shaquanna Love of Hawthorne, California; Earl Love of Reseda, California; and Brian Freeland of Eugene, Oregon; Twenty great and three great-great nieces and nephews.  She also leaves a host of cousins, dear friends and extended family.
