Charles Thomas Cowan completed his life’s journey on June 19, 2012 at the St. Luke Hospital East in Lee Summit, Missouri. Charles (Chuck) was born on May 14, 1933 to the union of George and Willie Cowan of Conway, Arkansas.
Charles was preceded in death by his father; mother; brothers, William and Leon Cowan; sister, Lurlene Owens and sons, James E. Cowan and Darrell R. Block.
Charles graduated from Pine Street High School in Conway, Arkansas. He attended UAPB in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was called to the army, where he served for three years. After being released from the army he moved to Topeka, Kansas and married Ethel Carroll and to this union Wendell, James and Christy were born. Later he moved to Los Angeles, California. He attended college in Los Angeles, California.
Charles was employed by Litton-DSD from May 1968 to March 1987, where he was a technical writer. He was employed for a short time by the Post Office in Lincoln Heights, California. In May 1987, he was employed by Northrop Corporation in the Advance Systems Division where he worked on the stealth bomber.
Charles met Ludelia (Lou) Block after 33 years of not seeing each other and they were married in 1987 and moved to Granada Hills, California. Chuck and Lou enjoyed following the UCLA football and basketball teams from state to state. They also traveled to the many Christian Methodist Episcopal Church conferences. After leaving California they moved to Bullhead, Arizona where they enjoyed living and continued to travel. They moved back to Raytown, Missouri where they reunited with St. Peter C.M.E. Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ludelia Block-Cowan of Raytown, Missouri; two children, Christy Cowan-Baker of Las Vegas, Nevada and Wendell (Carol) Cowan of Los Alamitos, California; three step sons, James M. Block of St. Louis, Missouri, Dwayne (Patrice) Block of Grandview, Missouri and Kevin E. Block of Atlanta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Rodney D. Block, Alexandra Block and Ta’ Hara Henderson all of Kansas City, Missouri; Brittany (Chaz) Murphy of St. Louis, Missouri; D’Heardra Block and Xavier Block both of Raytown, Missouri; two brothers, Harold (Jewel) Cowan of Harbor City, California and James (Elnora) Cowan of Marena Valley, California; one sister-in-law, Iola (David) Matson of Chicago, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
