Life’s Reflections

Carol Jean Rollins Epps

Humorous and outspoken, and with a determined spirit, Carol Jean Epps was the life of the Rollins and Epps families.

She was the fourth of seven children born to the late James and Ida Mae Cope Rollins in Kansas City, Kansas, on May 20, 1940.

Raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Carol joined Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She was baptized at an early age accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior and worked with the Usher Board.

She attended Douglass Elementary School, Northeast Jr. High School, and Sumner High School where she graduated in 1958.  It was in her junior year at Sumner High School that she met the love of her life and her soul mate, Albert Epps, Jr.  They dated and were high school sweethearts.  On June 14, 1959, they united in holy matrimony at Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Elder Samuel Meyers officiating.  They were married 58 years and from this union they were blessed with four children-Brian Keith, Gregory Scot, Karen Kay, and Albert Deron.

As matriarch of the Rollins-Lynch family, Carol Jean was highly devoted and fiercely protective of those she loved, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The family knew she was dependable and could be called upon at any time to keep the kids, feed the kids, give medical advice, lend a helping hand or ear and whatever else was needed.  She was known for her strawberry cobblers.  Her home was open to all.  She loved and believed in family and often family cookouts would be held in the backyard of her home and Christmas celebrations in her family room.

Carol Jean loved to plant flowers and, later, lounge and watch “The Young and The Restless.”  She loved to see her great grandchildren play among those flowers in the backyard while sitting on the deck.

Carol Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James M. Rollins, Sr. and Ida Mae Cope Rollins; two siblings, Judith Rollins Hicks and Stephen W. Rollins.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: a loving husband, Albert Epps, Jr.; one daughter, Karen Kay (Fredrick) Armour  of Allen, TX ; three sons, Brian Keith Epps, Gregory Scot Epps, Albert Deron Epps of Kansas City, KS; five grandchildren, Brian Kristopher Epps, Brandon Keith Epps, Brittani Kai Epps, Kellen Morris Armour, Kameron Malik Armour; six great grandchildren, Jaden Kaleb Epps, Brandon Christopher Epps, Kailee Mason Epps, Christian Scott Jerger, Grayson Epps and Jordan Epps; two sisters, Linda Kay Rollins, Jennifer Washington of Kansas City, KS; three brothers, James M. (Barbara)  Rollins, Jr. of Kansas City, KS, Lee O. (Kay)  Rollins of Randolph, New Jersey, Brian N.  (Mary) Rollins of Houston, TX; mother-in-law, Nadine Epps and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
