Life’s Reflections

As the oldest member of Eighth Street Baptist Church, Alma Louise Jackson was born on April 1, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter of Charles and Clara Jackson.  Her three older brothers, William (Dub), Charles (Charlie) and Clarence (Moon) preceded her in death.  Alma and her brothers grew up during the depression and it was a time period when the Jacksons like so many other families of that era struggled to merely survive.

Alma attended Dunbar South Elementary School, Northeast Junior High School and graduated from Sumner High School in 1942.  She continued her education at Kansas City Kansas Junior College.

During World War II Alma contributed to the war effort by working in The B-25 Factory as a lathe operator.  After the war ended Alma married Ernest Clark, Jr. and became the mother of three sons: Adrian, Ronald and Charles.

Alma had a career in retail sales in the greater Kansas City area at stores such as Stix, Baer and Fuller, Swanson’s on the Plaza and Halls Crown Center.  Alma loved music and enjoyed singing and dancing.  She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Clara Jackson, her husband Ernest Clark, Jr. and her son, Ronald Clark.

She is survived by her sons; Adrian Clark (Valesta), Charles Clark (Peggy), three grandchildren, Adrian Clark, Vinson Clark and Camille Clark, three great granddaughters; Grace, Josephine and Margaret Clark and many other relatives and friends.
